Stacking the Shelves #14 & The Sunday Post #11

Stacking The Shelves by Tynga's Reviews is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

LIFE UPDATE

I have been sick for the past few days and it doesn't help that I have so many assignments due. Working through a headache/drowsiness/restlessness is a real torture but my fever finally broke today so hopefully I will feel better soon!

I was also in a bit of a reading slump, at one point I was 'currently reading' 6 books. *hides head in shame* I am just not in the mood for Red Rising, I feel so sick of dystopians right now. It is a library book and I am pressurising myself to finish it before the due date but it has put me in a real slump. :/ GAH. Should I just ditch it and try again another time? I know I should but man, I waited so long for it to be available at the library #bookwormproblems.

Also, I managed to not buy any physical books this week. *cues applause* I feel like my crazy book buying phase is over. I am satisfied and I got my urge-to-splurge out of my system after 3 months of crazy book buying. I don't think I have any more books that I feel like I MUST have so I will probably only make the occasional book order from Amazon/Book Depository. I can hear my bank account thanking me.

EBOOKS

Confess: I loved the Slammed series but kinda hated Maybe Someday so I am very wary about reading this. This revolves around art though, so I am checking this out very soon, for sure! p.s. I just love how the cover blends into the background of the blog :P

(BOUGHT) PHYSICAL BOOKS

I didn't actually get these this week, I just forgot to haul them.

Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire: I need to continue on with the series! Everyone seems to love these two more than the first so I am excited! I don't think I've seen a series rated so highly on Goodreads before. (If you know of any that are rated 3.5 and above for the entire series, do let me know!)

  1. Awesome haul of books this week. The Throne of Glass novels are so amazing. I hope you love all your new books.

  2. I hope you feel better soon! I've been sick this week, too. Ugh, it was awful. I pretty much just sat at home coughing, blowing my nose, ordering books online and downloading eARCs...I was bad. I'm looking forward to reading Confess, I've heard really good things about it. Maybe you should put down Red Rising and read something you know you'll be interested in. Feel better!

    1. I hope you feel better too! I did go online and dump a ton of books in my cart but I managed to stop myself from checking them out. :P Yea I think I should, I will probably like it more if I am in the mood for it.

      Thanks for stopping by! :)

    2. They make it way too easy to check out these days. You don't even have to work for it anymore, all your info is saved. I blame my fever for not stopping me, lol.

  3. I hope you're feeling better, Ee! Being sick is never fun, and always inconvenient.
If you really can't get into Red Rising, you should definitely put it down and try it again another time... if not, you'll just hate it, and that would be a waste of time, no?
I hope you'll enjoy Confess, I did, but there were some things I didn't love in there as well.
Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading.

    1. Yes it would be an utter waste of time. :/ I think I have an idea of what you didn't like about Confess, I've seen some of the reviews. I am going in with rather low expectations though!

      Thanks for stopping by :)

  4. Hope you feel much better soon! I would definitely put down a book I wasn't enjoying. It's much more fun to spend your time reading books that you do enjoy :-) I hope that you like Confess. It's on my radar to read soon.
    My haul!

    1. I am feeling better already! Yes it sure is, but urgh I just hate putting down something without giving it a real shot.
I hope we both enjoy it!

  6. I do that all the time with library books. They aren't going anywhere and I'm not really on a deadline. I recommend ditching the book and picking it up in a few months. I've done that so many times and loved the book so much more when I was ready for it. Happy reading!

  7. I need to continue on with the Throne of Glass series and start with some Colleen Hoover. I think I will start with Slammed even though it seems like everyone loves everything she has ever written.

    1. I do think that Colleen Hoover is a little overhyped though, proceed with caution. :)

  8. I hope you feel better soon Ee! I need to continue reading the Throne of Glass series. I read Throne of Glass a while ago but currently do not have the guts to read Crown of Midnight. Throne of Glass just set the bar so high you know? And I really hate it when my opinion of a book is ruined because its sequel didn't meet my expectations.

If you're looking for a new series, have you read The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken? It's a fantasy/dystopian trilogy that I really love (plus they are all rated 4+ on Goodreads).

    1. We could read Crown of Midnight together if you are up for it! :)) Urgh I hate that so much too, especially when there is a middle book syndrome. Oh yes I've heard of it but I didn't know of its high ratings, I will be adding that to my TBR for sure, thanks for the rec!

      Thanks for stopping by! :)

  11. You have every right to quit reading something you don't want to read for any reason. There are no reader police. And the beauty of the library is that the book will be there when you are ready for it and eventually it won't be on a waiting list. my post: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2015/04/payback.html

  12. Definitely quit reading the book! The times I've forced myself to read a book I really didn't want to read ended up with me disliking the book for no real reason and being in a massive slump. You can always sign back up for the waitlist and get it again when you're more in the mood. Have a great week and hope you're feeling better!

  13. Sorry you've been feeling poorly. It seems to be going around along with the reading slump. And I too usually am reading several books at once. If my Kindle takes a dive and I have to reload it, I reach for a print one and usually end up finishing it first.

  14. Glad to hear you are feeling better. When I was sick last month I couldn't even focus enough to read a book. All I did was binge on Netflix shows!

  17. aww sorry to hear you were sick, that always sucks!! As far as the library book, Id recommend letting it go and marking is as a 'try again later' type of book - no matter what, at this point, you wont enjoy it nearly as much as you might after clearing this slump
