Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Summary: For budding costume designer Lola Nolan, the more outrageous, the outfit—more sparkly, more fun, more wild—the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins move back into the house next door.

When the family returns and Cricket—a gifted inventor and engineer—steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Review:  I loved Anna and the French Kiss so obviously I had to check this one out and I didn't regret one bit!

Anna is a fashionista and she is the typical high school girl who craves a bad-ass boyfriend. She is a lot more relatable compared to Anna since her boyfriend is the typical gawky teenager instead of a hothot brit. What I really loved was that Cricket was so upfront about admitting his feelings and acted on it without trying to play hard-to-get. The plot is simple and pretty straightforward but Stephanie manages to fluff it all up and even though the ending is predictable I was still hooked, I needed to know how this first love progresses! It was great knowing that Anna and Etienne are still going strong, not to mention PDA-ing everywhere they went. :P

This novel is everything about first love and its just too cute. I found myself laughing at 3am in the morning and tearing at 4am, this book offers everything a YA romance book should encompass. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss more because it was more romantic (Paris!) and less clichéd.

My rating:

Recommended for anyone looking for a fluffy read and if you enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss

  2. I loved Anna too but still have to read Lola :) I'm glad Cricket is more like the typical teenager, although at the cover he looks like a hottie!

  3. Yaaay! I'm so excited to read this book! I've already read Anna and the French Kiss and loved it so much! Huge Stephanie Perkins fan, hahaha. She's actually coming out with a third companion novel called Isla and the Happily Ever After! Not sure when, I think sometime next year?

I really hope I like this book as much as I enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss. Thanks for the review! (:
