Review: THIS IS NOT A YA BOOK. Recommended for mature readers. I read this because of my Random Reads Challenge for April and I am so glad I did! This is yet another Fae book and I felt a little reluctant to read it since I just read City of Bones but I was already behind on the challenge so I pushed on. Thankfully it was unique in its own way.
Plot-wise there was a lot of world building and introduction to Moning's version of the fae world although it wasn't that much different from the typical Seelie-Unseelie ones. I liked how the different faes had different powers that were specific to them. First books of the series have never been my favourite because it is usually slow with little action and Darkfever is no different. I kept reading and reading to find out what happens next and nothing major really happens but I am eager to read
Bloodfever.
Character-wise I thought Mac was way too bimbotic, it was actually getting on my nerves. Her random inserts about nail polish and her gorgeous, amazing, blonde hair was just ugh! And I get that she is in denial but honestly, the human race is in her hands and she can't get over the fact that she had to cut and dye her hair?! I felt that Moning was trying too hard to create a different female protagonist that would save the world. Mac didn't seem to toughen up even towards the end of the first book but I am quite sure she would in the second book.
Barrons sounds like a hot guy but we don't really know much about him so I am not jumping on the bandwagon just yet! He is just way too suspicious for my tastes :P He is one of the main reasons I want to read the next book, I have to know moreeeee!
Overall, there is quite a bit of (hot) sexual references which added something extra to Darkfever. I like the direction of the plot and honestly there really isn't much to it but somehow it is really addictive! Also, I think the monsters really added something interesting to the series.
