Review: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

Author: Haruki Murakami
Publisher: Vintage Books
Published: November 28th 2010
Source: Paperback (bought)
Goodreads | Amazon

Summary: Toru, a quiet and preternaturally serious young college student in Tokyo, is devoted to Naoko, a beautiful and introspective young woman, but their mutual passion is marked by the tragic death of their best friend years before. Toru begins to adapt to campus life and the loneliness and isolation he faces there, but Naoko finds the pressures and responsibilities of life unbearable.

As she retreats further into her own world, Toru finds himself reaching out to others and drawn to a fiercely independent and sexually liberated young woman. A poignant story of one college student's romantic coming-of-age, Norwegian Wood takes us to that distant place of a young man's first, hopeless, and heroic love.

Review:  So I got this at a 50% sale at a bookstore and I did not regret one bit! :) Its a deep book with a simple plot, as ironic as it sounds.

WWW Wednesdays #1 (4 April 2012)

WWW WEDNESDAYS from shouldbereading
What you’re currently reading: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
His writing style takes some getting use to, could be the translations. He describes things in such detail that sometimes I think its really important but turns out to be nothing at all. Kind of confusing for me, takes awhile for me to get into it every time I pick the book back up to continue reading.
Maybe after 600 pages of 1Q84 I am just not ready for another Haruki novel. (Btw, I still have 400 pages of 1Q84, its currently on hold)

"Clutching these faded, fading, imperfect memories to my breast, I go on writing this book with all the desperate intensity of a man sucking on bones. This is the only way I know to keep my promise to Naoko."
